Some things you should know.

1. My watch lasted 1 week past the warranty.

2. If the watch gets too much light or gets too warm it goes bad. You can't tell if it needs recharging because the power gauge stops working. The only way to know the power is low is if it resets and looses all its data.

3. Adding phone numbers and other info via TWO buttons is a long and painful process.

4. When the watch goes nuts and looses all of your phone numbers, time and other settings, you become a little nuts yourself.

I've received numerous "I love your watch" and "where did you get that watch" comments since wearing my white G Shock. It's a real eye catcher for sure. Especially if you have dark skin or are rocking a tan. I love the G Shock line. I can't wait to get this model in different fun colors. The white is awesome for sure. The only heads up is that the small band that is used to hook the other side of the watch into has turned a little yellow. But it's no biggie given the rest of the watch is still bright white after some wear and tear.

The DW 6600 is a good looking piece! Once you open the box, the watch looks much better than in most of the pictures posted on the Internet. Unlike the DW6600C-1V, the DW6600-1V does not have the G on the watch face background. Things that I like about this watch, besides its good looks, are:

*The chronometer's "target time" feature.
*The chronometer's "auto-start" option.
*Change between 24hr format and military time with the press of a button (in only 1 step).
*The Casio G Shock toughness and quality.

I hope that Casio keeps producing this great G-Shock classic on years to come. Recently, I have been looking at the DW6600C-1V model and that G on the display looks cool! I might add it to my collection :)

TX16G14, Timex watchband, Fits Casio G-Shock/Tri-Graph 16mm Review

The description that this watch band fits Casio G-Shock is incorrect. I purchased this item to replace the original 16-mm band of a Casio G-Shock Model DW-5600E (The Classic). The Timex TX16G14 does not properly fit this watch. The 16-mm width is correct but the recesses molded into the band where it inserts into the body of the watch (at the spring bars) are not large enough to properly seat the band. The spring bars can be forced into place but the watch band then rigidly sticks out on both sides of the watch in the same plane as the watch body, and doesn't wrap snugly around the wrist (i.e., there is a large gap between the band and one's wrist on either side of the watch body). Subsequent research on other websites show that the various G-Shock watches have specific fitments for the 16- and 18-mm bands. I recommend identifying the Casio model number for the band that properly fits your watch and order the original factory band (which is more expensive) instead of this generic ill-fitting item. I did so and the new replacement band (with Casio factory replacement band number 71601288) fits perfectly.

Casio - G-Shock - Atomic Solar Review

I bought the GW1210A 2AV which is the same as this watch only a different color brand new (paid $220 a year ago as it listed for $300+) and just so you know as of the time of this writing the GW1210A model is no longer sold by Casio anymore. There is a very good reason for that.

Theoretically this is a great watch. It has so many wonderful functions, that is. . .when it works. It has been in the Casio shop for SEVEN months (it never worked right from the begining). The first time it was repaired it took 2 moths but when I received it back it did not work right in other areas that worked before. I sent it back again and it has been five months and counting! I just heard from the techs who told me they cannot repair it. They broke two watches and have gone through several modules (the gizmo that runs the electronic features)trying to get it to work. It is not the techs, it is the watch.

The Casio service department has been a nightmare. They do not call back when they say they will. In fact they have NEVER called back until today. I have a 7 month long log of all the calls and promises they have made as to when the watch would be ready. ALL of them were not kept and they had the attitude that I was bothering them.

For months I have been asking for a replacement watch or at least that they would extended the warranty for another year from the point when I received the watch back-- Casio has said, "No" until now since after 7 months they cannot fix it. They cannot replace this model as they say they do not stock it anymore. So I am now having to negotiate with them on a replacement watch. The GW1200 is the only comparable watch. It has the same wonderful features but has a different module, so hopefully it will work. I asked for that watch but they have said they do not have that watch either. I will report back when this is finally resolved.

If you buy a G Shock get one of the cheaper watches. That way you will not be out much money and maybe the simpler style watch will work better. I've had great luck with their cheap watches.

First off i want to say that this is one of the best watches I've purchased . The watch is very comfortable and lightweight but feels like it can take any punishment you give it. It looks bigger in the pictures shown on here and is definitely not so big as shown. I was worried about it being too big and chunky but is the exact opposite. Most of the time i forget its there! The band is very flexible and just molds around your wrist perfectly. All the features work as well as you would expect and fit your daily needs. Thealarm is a little quit for me as i am a heavy sleeper, but i use my blackberry instead and that is always with me as well as my G-shock!

What a watch! Amazon have a great price on this Japanese made, titanium screw back g-shock. The original 'Master of G', this is the 2001+ interpretation of the classic 1993 original, featuring the embossed diving frog logo on the caseback. Site mode, passport/c card/blood type data bank, stop watch, countdown timer and 3 alarms + hourly signal make this a very competent model.The full auto EL light is powerful enough, the watch is constructed very well, and has a solid, quality feel. There is a reason why the frogman watches are the most sought after in the range, this is no exception; the military 'stealth' look is very well done with the gun metal bezel and strap color.

In summary, highly recommended, get one before they are all gone and Casio discontinues the line (as they frequently do with the frogman line).

This watch is really good looking, and very functional. Like otherCasio ana-digi watches, it takes some getting used to in terms of setting the time, date, etc. My particular watch holds the time extremely well, I am surprised however that the "Atomic" radio reception for automatic time keeping was not incorporated in this design. At this price, that should have been included. The "World Time" funcionality is very useful, as I often travel overseas or contact people there, and thus quickly knowing what time it is over there is very helpful.The solid hands are also better than many other watches, they stand out clearly against the dark face backgound. I hope and expect it will serve me for many years to come.

I was looking for an ANA-DIGI with style and I could not ignore this watch. It's an older model and does not have all the bells and whistles of the newer ones i.e. no atomic sync or solar power. Even so, the price was to attractive, and it had all the features I was looking for such as world time, countdown timer with repeat, alarms, and more. I could not find any reviews on it but decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did - it's a great watch. Got the watch in a matter of days. Shortening the steal band was a cinch. The picture on Amazon do not do this watch justice. It has a hefty feel and looks good on the wrist. The black ion plated steel watch and band has a stealthy look. I feel this is an exceptional value at 100 Bucks!

I just got this watch today. Took 10 days for the free shipping to arrive which is cool. I love the color combination and the square face too. There are things though. First is that the strap/band is way too short. I clasped it at the second to the last hole. I think this watch is great for any women with a very very tiny wrist because the band was too small for my regular sized wrist. I wanted it to look bulky and bigger size but it didn't. It just made it look like a mid sized ordinary watch. Second is that the band is made of resin material, meaning it is a hard plastic and it feels awkwardly wet the minute you perspire as it brushes your skin. I took it out a few times to dry. Third, it's not user friendly when it comes to setting the date and time etc esp for people who don't like reading manuals. 4th, is that the mineral screen is way too light for anyone who has eye problems... I don't have one yet I have to squint and stare at it for awhile to check the time.... I gotta say, it's all about the looks because it does look very gorgeous... I wanted to return it but decided not to. I don't wanna pay the restocking fee... I'll still wear it though but I'll look for another bigger watch soon...

It took me a long time sifting through the details of the various Casio G-Shock watches available.None of them had all of the exact features I wanted, but I like the look and features of this one.I don't think the 3 dials at the top are particularly useful, but it does what it says it's supposed to and the silver case with gold face gives it a little more of a classy look that a pure outdoors tough look.Now if they made an atomic & solar version of this, that's what I'd prefer.The atomic solar versions either didn't display both date and day at the same time or didn't have a comparable countdown timer or a countdown timer at all, or the alarm had less features.I like the size of it too--it is smaller and lighter than my Timex Expedition Adventure Tech Shock w/compass, and cost less.[...]

Casio Men's G-Shock MT-G Atomic Solar Watch #MTG920DA-1 Review

The strap/links on these G-Shocks are quite oversized: when I first got it, I could fit the watch around my legs! (You'll most likely have to get the links adjusted). Ironically, the four side buttons on the watch is small. So even if you have a huge wrist, you'll probably have trouble pressing the buttons! (Not for huge fingers)

***BEWARE*** the picture shows the four side buttons on the watch in silver, but the left and right side buttons on this model is actually plain black! It is quite misleading! The silver side button is actually the MTG920DJ model (which is the 2005 version). According to Casio, the MTG920DA was actually released in 2004 with black side buttons. If you search the Casio website, it will only display the MTG920DJ (their most recent version); most websites that still sell the MTG920DA are just taking the latest MTG920DJ version picture from Casio's website. The MTG920DJ seems to have the same features as this one (MTG920DA), except the four side (left and right) buttons are in silver.

For those of you wondering about the three circles on the watch:
the first one on the very left is basically a wannabe-analog display - basically, every five minutes, a bar increases (or decreases when it gets full); it's just mostly there for cosmetic reasons.

The second one in the middle is the battery status; it has an L (Low), M (Medium), and H (High) and the bar would display in one of those areas. If you get out in the sun a lot or know an area in your home where the sun shines a lot, then you won't have a problem with the battery ever going below High. Moreover, it has a power saving feature; the watch will go into sleep mode (display off) when it is in a completely dark area for a long time.

Finally, the third circle on the very right is where it tells you what options are enabled/disabled. It shows SPL (split time for stopwatch), DST (Daylight Saving Time), SIG (Hourly Signal), ALM (Alarm), SNZ (Snooze), and Auto EL (Automatic Electro-Luminescent backlight - the backlight turns on by tilting it a certain degree towards your face without having to manually press the backlight button.)

Keep in mind, synchronizing with the atomic signal is not instant: it usually takes around 3 minutes (at least for me, I live in California.) And if you're in a busy area or near an electronic, it might be difficult; try again or move to a different area. Moreover, it should show you the strength/level (4 levels) of the signal (while you're synchronizing) with a satellite icon on the watch. There is also a feature that automatically synchornizes for you while you're sleeping at 2:00AM, 3:00AM, 4:00AM, and 5:00AM. Therefore, it's not always necessary to syncronize it yourself because by the time you wake up, it should be ready to go.

Overall, this watch is attractive and fun to wear. The atomic radio signal feature is very cool; having the official time is great - right to the precise second! I've had this watch for months now, and I enjoy wearing it daily.

This watch does have a lot of feature - except, it's a pity it does ***NOT*** have a countdown timer!

Pros:
- Cool design
- Water/scratch resistant; G-Shock are known for their toughest watches. (Update: I've worn this watch daily for almost a year and a half now and not a single scratch - still looks brand new!)
- Solar Power; battery life is excellent; never had the power ever go below High. Power Saving Feature.
- Position of the time and date is easy to read at one glance.
- Metal strap
- Can display World Time with Local Time

Cons:
- The side buttons are small and tight to press (must use like the very tip of the fingers)
- Atomic signal takes too long manually, and it usually is not possible to synchronize while wearing the watch; if you're inside the home, it is usually best to take off the watch and leave it near a window.
- Alarm beep can be a little longer perhaps (even my inexpensive Timex Watch would beep and it would gradually beep faster, which I actually like a bit better.)
- No countdown timer. (How could they forget this?!)

Also, try to research other models instead of finding out the hard way (like I did about the side buttons) before purchasing.

There are no instructions on how to adjust the metal band. The band is ridiculuously large.
I don't know whose wrist it is suppose to fit. Unlike other manufacturers like seiko where
you can adjust the band by moving a spring loaded rod along a metal clasp which has lots of holes in it and covers a distance
of an inch and a half or more.This watch has metal clasp with only 3 holes over a distance of less than a quarter inch. The only way to adjust this band is to take it to a watch repair place and have the links removed.
Note that Amazon includes a "watch care & returns" brochure which states that "watches that have been resized or otherwised altered will not be accepted for return". Ain't that a catch 22?

This is my 3rd G shock in 20 years... Yes, they last a very long time.I replaced my G-2900, which is by far, my favorite, because the band broke.I got this G2900F-3VDR because it was on sale and looked nearly exactly the same as my G2900.The color is like a dark military brown.Love it.The only thing I miss is the metal button that you push to backlight the face.It is plastic in this model, and makes it look just a little cheap.Otherwise, I still love this watch!

I have had 2 other G-Shock watches before buying this one. The only reason it was 2 is the battery died and after 7 years the watch had served me well, so I just replaced it. I had though about buying an atomic/solar Casio for awhile before the purchase. After recieving the watch and learning how to operate it, I wish I hadn't waited so long. It's a great looking watch with the toughness that I have come to expect from Casio. These are watches that will stand up to everyday wear and abuse with out missing a beat. I especially like the light, you can set to run off a button or to turn on when your wrist is turned toward you to look at it. I like the look of analog watches, but enjoy the benifits of a digital. Which makes this watch a home run. The only slight I could even make is the band fit on my wrist. This somethingthat I find common in this style of band, so if a perfect fit is something you are looking for you may want to go with a metal adjustable band. Overall, I would give this watch 5 stars. It is products like this that keep me buying Casio G-Shock watches.

This is a very cool watch.It is tough, reliable, and gets the job done.The atomic function synchronizes the watch to an atomic clock in Fort Collins, CO every night (it tries four times).The solar portion makes sure that you'll never have to change the battery again.I love how the display of the watch is reversed, it doesn't make it more readable (actually, kind of the opposite), but it is rather cool.The watch crystal is recessed, so scratching it will be pretty hard.The watch has some weight to it, but it is not too heavy.The watch is big though and you may have a problem getting it under a sleeve.Otherwise, a great purchase and decent price (I got mine from Costco for $80).

Looks very solid, but feels a bit heavy on the wrist.The accuracy of radio controlled ("atomic")timepieces is beyond compare.So if the "atomic signal" can be received, a $10,000+ Swiss watch will not be any more accurate.Looks like it can take a beating. A nice touch is the glass crystal, which doesn't scratch like the plastic ones. The only real issue I have is that unlike other Casio atomic watches, there is no visible receiving indicator to tell if it has indeed synched with the atomic clock in Colorado.However, being that I own several atomic watches and clocks, I can easily see that this Casio is in sync.Looks a bit casual, but much less so than the plastic G-Shock watches.Also, the analog dial, to me, is much more appealing than all-digital. All in all, a very good watch at a reasonble price. I'd rate it 4 1/2 stars.NOTE: If you are looking for a multiple alarm, databank-type watch, or one with barometers, etc. this is not the one. There are plenty of other Casio models out there.If you are looking for basic, ACCURATE solar-powered time, this is the one.

Follow-up:The new reviewer "J. Tashima" in Los Angeles is correct.You can push a button to receive "GET" which tells you the last date and time of signal reception.However, other Casio atomics have a visual "antenna" symbol, which lets you know that it has received, without having to push a button. Seems to be much more convenient, although this criticism is minor. I have noticed that the reception is slightly more "touchy" for me than the other three Casio Atomics I own, two of which are much cheaper all-digital models.The key to this one is finding a good location in your house. Holding (instead of pushing) the bottom right button (same as the "GET"), activates the manual receive function.The signal strength is shown in bars.This greatly assists in the proper placement for reception. By the way, I totally agree with "J. Tashima"...excellent review!

This is a limited edition G-Shock, first of all.And it does not disappoint.It has all the recent technology that Casio has put in their most recent models.I'm talking about Atomic Technology and Touch Solar Technology.These two functions is what a digital watch should have, or I should say that every watch in the world should have.

First, you no longer need to worry about the battery.The watch is solar powered.It can last up to at least 5 months without exposure to sun.And charging time is 5 minutes in direct sun light.Only 5 minutes.The watch also has the power saver function so it actually helps the battery prolong the charge.

Second, and most importantly, the time.It has Atomic Technology.This means that the watch will get the most accurate time settings in the world.So when you look at your wrist, the time will be very accurate, and probably more accurate than any other watch out there in the market, except compared to other Atomic watches.

The strap is not the cheap resin rubber but a very hard and sturdy resign with stainless steel inserts along with PVD coating to help resist scratches and whatnot.

The watch itself does not feel cheap at all.It's very heavy for a G-Shock and feels like it mean something.

All other functions are included, such as stop watch, world time, count down timer, auto el, etc.

The perfect watch for a die hard G-Shock collector, or for anyone just looking for a sturdy watch that you won't shed a tear if you scratch it.

Casio Men's G-Shock Ana-Digi Watch #G601-1AV Review

I bought this watch mainly because I needed a dive watch (i.e. 200m water resistance) which all Casio G-Shock line can handle. However, I also wanted a combination of analog and digital, where now the selection shrinks a lot. Then, discarding the atomic line that I don't want to pay for a feature I will not use, I ended up with a few candidates only, which where all very similar to each other. I decided on this one, though I am not completely satisfied after I got it in my hands...

The watch has an elegant look certainly, but it is much thicker than the picture suggest. Overall thickness is about 18mm! It feels solid and its weight is fine thanks to the resin case. However, the description (not only here) is also misleading with respect to the backlight illumination: the only parts that illuminate are the little LCDs around the face. You need to have the time displayed in the right side LCD in order to see the time in complete darkness. But my old eyes can hardly see those little numbers in bright light... no way with the weak back-illumination. My previous Casio illuminator had the complete face with backlight so you could easily see the handles. In this one the handles can't be seen at night, and even the phosphor coating is so weak that glowing in the dark lasts for a few minutes only. Finally, and the worst thing: this watch can be adjusted almost automatically for the time in any timezone of the world... but only on the digital time! If you want to adjust the handles, you have to do it manually... and the handles only move forward.... so, if you want to set the time back 1 hour, you have to spend a few minutes waiting while the handles move the 11 hours at a moderately high speed... and if you by mistake pass the correct time... aaarrgh!! I don't know if all analog G-Shocks have the same problem. So, be sure to do this while sitting in a boring flight...

Casio - G-Shock - Atomic Solar watch Review

I bought the GW1210A 2AV which is the same as this watch only a different color brand new (paid $220 a year ago as it listed for $300+) and just so you know as of the time of this writing the GW1210A model is no longer sold by Casio anymore. There is a very good reason for that.

Theoretically this is a great watch. It has so many wonderful functions, that is. . .when it works. It has been in the Casio shop for SEVEN months (it never worked right from the begining). The first time it was repaired it took 2 moths but when I received it back it did not work right in other areas that worked before. I sent it back again and it has been five months and counting! I just heard from the techs who told me they cannot repair it. They broke two watches and have gone through several modules (the gizmo that runs the electronic features)trying to get it to work. It is not the techs, it is the watch.

The Casio service department has been a nightmare. They do not call back when they say they will. In fact they have NEVER called back until today. I have a 7 month long log of all the calls and promises they have made as to when the watch would be ready. ALL of them were not kept and they had the attitude that I was bothering them.

For months I have been asking for a replacement watch or at least that they would extended the warranty for another year from the point when I received the watch back-- Casio has said, "No" until now since after 7 months they cannot fix it. They cannot replace this model as they say they do not stock it anymore. So I am now having to negotiate with them on a replacement watch. The GW1200 is the only comparable watch. It has the same wonderful features but has a different module, so hopefully it will work. I asked for that watch but they have said they do not have that watch either. I will report back when this is finally resolved.

If you buy a G Shock get one of the cheaper watches. That way you will not be out much money and maybe the simpler style watch will work better. I've had great luck with their cheap watches.

This watch would be 5 starts, except for the following:

1. To this day most of the digital watch LCD displays are not readable at an angle.
2. CASIO could really have done without all the extra writing on top of the solar panels.
3. The watch could be a touch lower profile.

Now for the good stuff:

1. The main screen shows everything you need - time, date, day.
2. Stop watch.
3. Timer is up to 24 hours - you can't set anything smaller that one minute, but it's a much better option than the ones with the one hour timer.
4. World time - some say it is bit excessive, but I think it's nice since most of the major cities are already in there.
5. Alarms - don't really need all of them, but it's nice to have them.
6. Power options are great - solar power, power save mode - puts car makers and house builders to shame.

Great watch overall if what you need is a tough, no-nonsense time keeper with all the time-measurement options you could desire.

I got my first G-Shock as a gift in 1980 when I was still in high school.It was a bit of a novelty at the time.Took it to Africa and back, twice.Banged it against tables and walls when people asked, "Is that thing really as tough as they say?".I went through 3 straps, but 20 years later (that's not a typo) when the casing around the watch itself finally cracked off, it was STILL RUNNING ON THE SAME BATTERY.No kidding.I've still got it in a box somewhere.The battery is dead now, but the legend of this incredibly durable, useful watch was by then well made.Recently, a terrific aluminum Swatch I was using deteriorated, and i needed another capable work piece.I was thrilled that Casio was still making these, even if they're no longer made in Japan.I'm so happy with this one.If you're looking for a watch that can really take a beating and just grin at you, this is the one.Enjoy.

First of all, let me tell you I am not a big digital watch fan. This is my first ever G-Shock and so far no regrets.
About this model:
The model number is G-9010-1. Its good to know it is not GW-9010-1. The difference of letter 'W' means this is not atomic. But it is solar powered.
In fact I didnt know this fact till the watch arrived (you can realize how G-Shock naive I am!). I was sort of disappointed initially but I liked the watched so much that decided to keep it. It has 48 cities and 29 world time zones and accuracy of +/- 15 seconds a month which is good enough for me (I dont see a reason to have atomic accuracy unless you are planning to launch a space mission or just a nerd).

Features I am not a big fan of:
-Buttons can be hard to press. This can be annoying if you will use the rally function (which I still need to figure out). Personally I dont see this a big disadvantage
-Auto light function sounds cool but didnt find very useful. So the display illuminates if you tilt the watch about 15degrees from horizontal. Its easy to do when the watch is not on your wrist. But when you are wearing it and standing, it can be pretty difficult to twist your wrist at desired angle to illuminate the display. Off course there are various options, you can switch it off. In dark u press a button and it lights up, you can set up how long u want it to illuminate etc.About buying experience:
Bought from the seller Watch Colony. It was about 90 bucks, new. Ordered on Saturday with free shipping option, arrived from Texas on Thursday. So very happy. The watch was not in a metallic box (like showed in above youtube video), that was a disappointment. But still five stars to the seller for fast delivery and excellent condition.

I have owned this watch for over 6 months now.
It has many positives and one negative.
1) For the money/features its a 10 out of 10
I own several watches, I choose to use
this one everyday
2) I was tired of buying watch batteries for my watches, even
ones that I haven't worn in many months.
3) I want a accurate watch, even my citizen watch lists
+/- 30 sec amonth?It fortunately is much more accurate
than that.
The G-Shock atomic is set 3 times a day to the atomic clock
in Colorado, it also tracks daylight savings so you don't
have to ever have to reset the time.
4) The G-Shock case is sturdy plastic and the face is recessed
to avoid scratches.
5) Its inexpensive enough that if I do seriously damage it
I am not worried about the cost of a replacement.
6) Good to 200m.I don't dive but I might go swimming.
Only downside is the time recorder feature.It will record a time/date event.????So what...I would rather have had a countdown timer instead of the mostly useless time stamp feature.
Hence my 4 of 5 (better would be 9 out of 10) rating.
I just bought another one of these for my father, and am
thinking of buying a 3rd one for my brother!

this is an epic watch! the color is different in person than the picture but its still amazing its more of a ligher but brighter yellow. yellow is my absolute favorite color so i couldn't go wrong. it does tend to get scratches easliy on the silver part but overall it will be alright they are not deep they are little but light ones. i get so many compliments on it :) i would recommend this to anyone. and it did come earlier than it was supposed to, it came 2 days before the planned date so i was happy!

I ordered my watch & it arrived in pristine condition. Upon taking it out of the box, it did not take much light to get it activated. As other people have pointed out previously, the watch is big and the manual is about 40 pages (thickness of manual is due to other languages within manual). At first I was a little confused about the smaller three dials, however going clockwise from top-left to the bottom they are: 24-hour/military time, modes/days of week, and second hand. The large second hand is the stop-watch second hand & is used for other settings, not for counting seconds. This design is obviously to conserve the energy charge on the internal solar-powered battery.

If you know anything about vi in UNIX, the watch modes are the same way. First set the mode that you want the watch to be in, certain dials will move to indicate what mode it is in, then you can adjust the settings.

I had an issue following the alarm clock settings with the manual & could not get it to work. However, I found an Easy Guide to Setting G Shock Giez pdf on Casio's website (use Google to search) which had alarm clock instructions that made it easier to figure out. After that, it was child's play to set the alarm.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase & now I just want to make sure that I don't scratch it or bang it into anything while using it. :)

There are a few reasons I returned this item.

To start with the watch hands and date are almost impossible to see in low light conditions. Even in a well lit, bright room, I had to really look hard to see the hands on the face. The hands blend into the face of the watch making it very difficult to do a quick time check. I have very good vision and had to hold the watch close to my face to read the time. The date window is so small, I'm surprised anyone would be happy with this watch if they use that feature. (just look at the photo) I was really disappointed to see that there was no way to set the watch to show the date and the day simultaneously. Maybe that's trivial but all of my other Casios have shown date, day and time all at once. (I have owned 4)

I also tested the light while standing in a closet. I was very disappointed to see how dim it is. I couldn't see the time hands at all and the date is so tiny, you almost need a magnifying glass to read it. There is no way to see the time of day using the watch light. NONE. Why on earth would you design a watch light that doesn't show the time when it's illuminated? I sure couldn't use the digital feature considering the window and font are so small. I work the night shift and need a watch that really lights up. I need to be able to see day, date and time without using a flashlight for additional light.

In closing I currently have a G-Shock model G-3110-1VCF that has been abused and worked great for years. I have given a very honest review and would not recommend this model or any similar model to anyone. Thank you and I hope this information can be helpful in your decision.

I have had this watch for four years know.I bought it cheap at a discount store.It is durable G-shock tough and is loaded with very cool features that I find myself using alot.I love the data bank and keep telephone numbers, license plate numbers to my cars, pin numbers, and all sorts of stuff I need to refer to often on the run.I use the count down feature to help me remember when the next starwars movie comes out. It has a stopwatch and alarm setting also.The back light is bright and comes on with the push of the G button. This is really a great watch. I am a firefighter and I need watches that can stand the toughest environments.....I always wear a G-Shock. Having already owned a G-Shock before buying this watch, I know this thing will last me a lifetime. A great thing about this particular watch is that not only does it have the durability of a genuine G-Shock, it also has great looks. I wear this watch on a nice outfit and people think I'm wearing a really expensive watch. Little do they know I only spent less than $100 on it.
Some of the other cool features of this watch are the auto time setting via the atomic clock and especially the solar power. All my life I dealt with watches that need a battery replacement, and after wearing a watch for a long time and the screws on the back cover become permanently attached to the case, battery replacement becomes a pain in the *$%! This watch on the other hand you never need to worry about batteries.....simply put it by the window sill when it says it needs charging.
Lastly, I love the light-up feature. No need to fumble with any buttons for the watch to light up to read time in the dark. The watch is smart enough to sense ambient light on its solar cells to know if the light-up feature needs to be activated. So if you are out in the sun and look at your watch, the light doesn't come on. And also, the great feature about the light is also that it never drains the battery. If you happen to drain the battery (which would like never happen unless you've been living in the dark for like a year), simply place the watch under a desk lamp or by the window during the day. The darn thing charges itself if you walk around without the front of the watch being covered.
I love this watch and have grown ever so confident in Casio and it's life of G-Shock watches. You can never go wrong with this watch!

First of all it's a casio, and with that comes the fact that it will take a beating and not quit...Really like the fact that the city codes it shows for the time zones are more in line with major cities that you may actually go to. Love that the world time is set up so you can see home time above the city in the world you may be in.Handy for when I gotta call my wife at home and I'm in a different time zone. Getting used to the dark display, my other casios all have the lighter screen...People criticize the timer, but for me it's excellent due to the fact you can do a long enough time option to cover any flight (since I work on airplanes, that's a great thing). I also like the strap, even though it's rubber, and usually they scratch or dig into my skin. The looks are great.

Now, to the negative...the alarms are very low compared to my other casios...and the even though the led options are great for the alarm/timer/etc., I wish it was like in the "mudman" where the whole circumference of the watch seemingly lights up. Unless it is really dark around you it's not that noticeable.

Only give it four stars because I can't sync the alarm to the city of the world I may be in, and because the alarm isn't loud enough for me....

As far as a watch and for the price....it's an excellent buy, perfect size if you have a smaller wrist.Good luck!!!

Review of My new G7800: like a greatly improved 5600!
I just received my G7800 (positive display, black, brushed stainless steel around the face) and I really like it. The digits are not annoying at all. I was afraid that the digits would be too 'tile like' but they are fine. They are bold enough to see at a glance. The time is perfectly placed right in the center of the watch! Can you imagine- a g shock with numbers perfectly placed, and no silliness filling up the screen? No more searching for the actual time amongst distractions! I was able to make the fonts on the day/date year fine, so that the time stands out more.

The watch has a very nice brushed steel front. Basically the styling is very similar to the 5600's. It is like a 5600, but upgraded and more modernized. It is a 5600 without as much nerdiness. It has a classy but tough look to it. It looks like it will hold up better than the 5600 cosmetically, thanks to the steel! It might be a tad more raised than the 5600. You really cannot go wrong with this one.

The watch is not atomic, which, to me, means that it should last longer than 1.5 years. I have had 3 atomic casios, and all 3 have died within 1.5 years. I wouldn't have bought it if it were atomic.

I think that we may have a perfect G shock here, which i didn't think existed. The only thing is that the band is a little stiff. Hopefully it will soften up with time. I might dip the straps in boiling water to help them along.

I can tell that I am going to wear this one constantly. It took over a year, but I am glad that I have finally pulled the trigger. $75, off of amazon, came in 4 days.

I could go on about the functions, but why bother? I just use it to tell the time, and to time myself at the gym and on my lunch hour. World time, timers etc..

Really guys- if you have been on the fence on this one- it is well worth pulling the trigger on this one. It is just a fantastically evolved dw5600. Maybe that is why they called it the 7800? They have taken the 5600 (which to me has always been a perfect watch) and they have dressed it up. They have brought the 5600 into this century. You can't go wrong here.

Don't be turned off by the tile like digits- that effect goes away when you see the watch in person. It was my biggest concern, but now it is not an issue.

I love my new Casio watch. It syncs every night with atomic clock, and charges itself via solar power. It shows the date and day of the week on the same screen. you can also see the current time in alarm and timer mode. I really like the Auto Light feature. Solid watch for those who like a watch on steroids. Functions work well with no issues. Lights up nicely at night. The blue color is unique and breaks the monotony of the normal black style for this watch without being "loud" in color.

Tide function of the Casio watches is the only one I've found you can custom set up by the lunitidal interval for any given area. Granted, it's tricky and requires you to look up the info yourself and put that interval in but the manual does come with a sizeable list intervals of beaches all over the world. If you care to you can program it to your beach based on your local info. A quick search on the web will yield instructions on how to do this.

G-Shock watches speak for themselves.My last G-shock unfortunately had a broken strap and since it was purchased in Japan, good luck with finding parts for it.I would agree with another reviewer that the "adjust" button is harder to press, but that's probably because Casio doesn't want you to accidentally hit that button.All the other 3 buttons protrude a bit more, and you don't have to use your nails to push down.The back lit is blue, and it's easy to read.Overall you can't complain about the build quality of the watch.The strap feels extremely comfortable, and the watch doesn't feel bulky at all.I have a pretty thin wrist and it fits me pretty well.

I got this watch instead of the 25th anniversary white edition because this is such a better value. It is the same white resin band and timepiece but the display is black on gray LCD instead of the gray on black style of the 25th anniversary one. But this is a small difference considering what you get with the solar atomic G-SHOCK. There is basically no need to set your clock and/or change it during day light savings because it receives atomic time waves and sets itself. It will probably last forever given it charges itself via sunlight. Lastly, it's a G-SHOCK so you don't have to worry about dropping it or hitting it on walls, desks, and other objects.

My only gripe is the amount of force required to push down the buttons. This isn't a big deal and makes sense because of the rigidity nature of this watch. However, sometimes getting the light to turn on requires digging into the button with my fingernail.

Other features include atomic time keeping in UK, Japan, U.S. and Germany. 5 alarms, a countdown, and stopwatch features. Displays date and time with calendar pre-programmed through 2099.

The only trouble is that it does not get the signal in the area where I reside, Vancouver, BC. I had another Casio that used to work fine and get a good signal in Vancouver, BC, but for some reason it totally stopped working. So I bought this one and immediately adjusted the belt to fit my wrist. Unfortunately, I need to return it but they would not take it back since the watch was resized and used. The Online store suggested me to contact Casio, which in turn suggested me to contact the store where I purchased the watch. I am still trying to find a solution.

Having owned the GW500AJP-1AV for a week, here are my thoughts on some of the points raised by the reviewers of this and other G-Shock models:

1. In my opinion, concerns about the thickness of the watch have been overstated. Certainly, if slimness is an *important* criterion for you, this isn't your watch. But you'll have no trouble fitting it under your shirt cuff. [Though the manual cautions that doing so will hamper the solar function.] Even my ridiculously slender wrists support it - physically and (I hope) esthetically - without difficulty.

2. The G-Shock models are advertised as rugged. I'm not about to use mine as a hockey puck to put that to the test. But it certainly *feels* sturdy. [The thickness helps here.] And from what I've read about them elsewhere, they do shrug off a considerable amount of punishment.

3. Everyone's experience with receiving the timekeeping signal from Fort Collins will vary depending on the particulars of their location and the attention they pay to the manual. I live only 350 miles from the transmitter but with modestly sized mountains in between - which can be a dealbreaker. Although it took a longer period of motionlessness for the watch to lock in than the manual had told me to allow, it has received a strong signal ever since. [And keep in mind that the watch is accurate to 15 seconds a month even without synchronization.]

3. When I first unpacked the watch, the battery level was at Medium - which you would expect after it having been in a box for who knows how long. After 3 hours of direct exposure to bright sunlight [which you should do in the early morning to keep the watch from roasting], the battery level has remained High ever since.

4. The four control buttons are slightly recessed - for decreased vulnerability, I imagine. This means you will need to operate them with a directly perpendicular press by the edge of your fingernail, rather than an angled mashing under the meat of your fingertip. I can see why this irritates some people. [It did require a small mental adjustment on my part.] However, I think it was a legitimate design decision.

5. The leftmost of the three circular "gauges" at the top of the display is meant to mimic the sweep of a minute hand on an analog watch. Speaking as someone whose attachment to that visual "pie-slice" style of time reading has been my main reason for sticking with analog watches until now, I think it's a terrific idea. In practice, though, the gauge is too small to be useful for that purpose. [For my eyes, anyway.] However, I don't mind particularly - since I think the three gauges look cool simply as decoration.

6. Someone else commented that the black resin wrist band is not replaceable. I'm not sure if that's true. However, replacing it would be no casual affair. So if you won't be content with this kind of band, you should look for a different watch. I prefer leather bands myself. But this one is in keeping with the toughness of the rest of the watch and certainly comfortable enough to wear.

On the whole, I'm very happy with this purchase. If you enjoy having an accurately set timepiece - and who doesn't? - it's difficult to overstate the satisfaction of radio-synchronization. A good mechanical watch is accurate to 5 seconds a day. A good quartz watch is accurate to less than 1 second a day. As long as it's in signal range, this watch will be accurate to less than 1 second for the next 60 million years [http://tf.nist.gov/cesium/fountain.htm] - or at least until the US government stops broadcasting, at which point you'll probably have other things to worry about. When someone asks you for the time, you will be able to give them *The* time.

Pros: Both my U.S. Navy son and myself have bought and owned this watch for over six years.Never had to replace the battery.The screen is as bright as on the day we each bought ours.My son has been deployed twice to Iraq and to Afghanistan, and has seen combat duty.This watch has survived everything.When he goes swimming, he does not even bother to remove his watch.As for myself, I have dropped my watch numerous times, travelled all the over the world with it, and never had any trouble with it.

Cons: The metal wristband that my son bought the watch with did not survive past three years, but his watch is still working as accurately as on the day I bought it for him.As for myself,I wish that the sound for the alarm was loud enough to wake me up during my trips like my Timex Ironman.But then my Ironman does not work anymore, but this one still does.I take a working and accurate watch anyday over one that has a loud alarm, but cannot take rough treatment.

You can't get more retro then this super duty G-shock. Its got all the standard features of a digital watch and its dark gray. The perfect alternative to the everyday black G-Shock. Its so nice I almost pissed in my pants.

If you love the Casio DW5600/G(W)5600 series or the G(W)5500 series this is your watch.

Solar powered, and 200 meters water resistant, plus its a 9-11 tribute model (I titled it a tribute model) so its got 'NYC' as a watermark on the background of the watch. You can see NYC when you use the backlight EL button.

Its less chunky than most G-shocks but its not too small in any way. Its sleek but strong looking.

The GS1300B is, first and formost, a G Shock. This watch should last a long time.

The watch looks very elegant, esp. for a G Shock, which are typically bulky, digital and not what you'd typically consider wearing for a formal affair. This watch could easily pull it off! Much nicer in the flesh then the photos show.

You really need to download the manual in PDF format from Casio's site, and browse through it when you first get this watch. Configure your "Home City", and you can then sit back and watch as the hour and minute hands swirl around into their correct location, as if by magic! Within a day or so, the watch should (depending on your location) sync to the nearest Atomic timekeeping plant, and be set to the exact correct time!

After that, no need to worry about 30 day months, leap years, etc. The GS 1300B will automatically change the date for you, skipping to the 1st of the month at midnight of months with only 30 days, accounting for daylight savings time... you should NEVER need to worry about it displaying the correct date or day of the week!

Chrono, 24 hour countdown timer, alarm, world time... pretty much everything you'll ever need, including solar powered, all wrapped up in a dark, mysterious shell! "Tough movement" feaature even checks the exact positions of the hour/minute/second hands, using a special LED light. If any of the watches hands have been bumped out of position or moved by strong magnetic force, the watch checks and automatically corrects their positions, every hour at five minutes to the hour! Sweet!

Comes with a soft resin band, which, at first, concerned me. I generallyprefer a bracelet type band, but this is a nice resin band, very soft and comfortable, and carries on the dark, black look of the watch.

If you're thinking about a solar, atomic watch that's built to last, you won't regret getting the Giez GS1300B!

This just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:

It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one.The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist.I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it wasn't comfortable.After searching for another G-Shock with the Tide Graph I found this one (the G7900-1) and it's great.I like the fact that it has 5 alarms and a countdown timer in addition to all of the other features.The styling is nice and modern, it's easy to read, and the red button in the lower right side gives it a nice touch.The moon phase indicator is nice and large too.

Over the past year, I wore out four watches. My first one was an atomic watch. Hard to let that feature go, but the band was too cheaply made. The next watch was a military issue. The winding knob fell off one day. In the morning it was there. At the end of the day, it was gone. Don't know what happened to it.

I ended up getting the G-Shock. I've worn it daily for the last eight months or so. The band is still good. It's not starting to come apart. You can't even tell which eyelet I put the tongue in everyday. There's no wear at all. It's gone through barbed wire, rocks and sand. It's bumped around on humvees, helicopters and airplanes. The battery is still good and the metal still shines. There are minimal scratches.

Negative: It's a trick getting used to which button does which function. It's also a pain to change the analog time when you move across time zones. The hand only advances, there's no counter-clockwise movement for the hands. But that's really it.

I think this is the best watch I've ever had.

One of the folks that I work with also has this watch and he's the kind of guy who will spend $1000 on a watch without flinching.

It's a tough watch. It's attractive. It's not so big that it looks more like a belt buckle on your wrist. It doesn't give you altitude and it doesn't pay your taxes. It does, however, keep time with wonderful consistency. The blue/green light won't ruin your night vision.

If you are going through Amazon's catalogue like I was looking at the $400 watches and drooling. Take a break, save some cash and enjoy this watch.

Love this watch.
Good points:
- Solar and radio sync'ed with time signal, no problem syncing every night, just have to make sure I point it west (I live in San Antonio, TX).When I am where I'm not sure where the transmitter is, I wear it to sleep, and looks like I move around enough that it eventually succeeds syncing.No problem syncing in California, Texas, Poland, Holland.I'm going to Asia in a month, we'll see.
- Switching to a different time zone is easy, if a bit long due to the time zone selecton only going one direction - going from west to east is easy, east to west requires sweeping the whole globe, and if you don't push the button fast enough you have to wait until the needle sweeps.They should have programmed another button to sweep in reverse
- As a "set and forget", this is genius.Keeps the time on the nose (with sync every night, unbeatable precision), never have to wind, no battery to change (had several waterproof watches with batteries, waterproofing dies at 2nd battery change), autmatically changes date regardless of month, changes to Daylight saving.
- Tried stopwatch and down counter, they work but I don't use them much.
- Not the least, looks cool with big dial and 3 sub-dials, with metal bracelet with composite inserts. Clasp is easy to put in, and secure with the 2 buttons you need to grasp to unhook.Much better than pure friction clasp, had a few of those and they keep on unhooking by themselves.
Bad:
- Casio lost a good opportunity, would have preferred the 24 hours needle to show home time while I'm traveling - checked with customer service, not possible.
- The seconds hand is actually in the small, lower dial, the big seconds hand is actually a function indicator, takes a while to get used to it.
- Some times I accidently hit a button and put it into stopwatch mode, takes a few seconds to realize it when I consult the time, another "get used to it" thing.

Overall, the best watch I ever had.

Wow, I am really loving this watch.This is my first G-shock and I'm really glad I made the purchase.I was a little worried about the blue color initially, but it's not a really bright blue.The LCD is SUPER easy to read, it has a turquoise hue to it making it very bright.Even in low light it is easy to see the time without using the illumination.Very comfortable and light for it's size.The buttons are a bit hard to push, but this is a mud-resistant watch, so what do you expect?It's better than being able to push them accidentally.Really happy with it.

First off I should note that I am a long time user and lover of Casio G-Shocks. I have owned several over the past couple of decades starting in the military. This is my first dissappointment with Casio watches.....

The face of the watch, buttons and setup are pretty standard for G-Shock watches.... The cool looking black screen with light lettering/numbers is the issue. In low light situations you cannot see the lettering/numbers. For example my coworker was sitting 10 feet away from me and I could read his standard G-Shock from across the room to tell the time when I couldn't even read mine on my wrist without using the light on the watch.....

If you work during the day or in brightly lit rooms all the time this may not be an issue, but if you are in and out of low lit areas, outside during dusk/dawn this watch will not be for you.

I am returning mine for a non-black faced Casio G-Shock watch.

The 3 Issues:
1. No second hand. You need to rely solely on the small but daylight-readable digital display. This omission may have been to save energy, given its solar power.
2. Non uniform illumination. The mechanical hands & dials are well lit, the "6" at bottom is overly bright, but the digital displays are barely readable. I solved this problem for the lower display by sticking, using thin transparent weather stripping tape, a small aluminum foil reflector over the "6". It is shaped like a circular segment (also circle segment-see wikipedia), with the flat edge lined up with the bottom of the lower digital readout and the curved edge allowing you to just see the tip of the minute hand. It may take a few trials to get it right, but it greatly improvesillumination of the more-important lower display, including seconds, and blocks the glaring "6".
3. The alarm is not very loud and directional (loudest facing the front), I can't imagine hearing it in a noisy cockpit and it definitely won't wake me from a sound sleep. But my wife says it's loud, so it may just be that my age 66 hearing notch happens to match it's frequency.

Everything else is very positive. It came on the day before we switched back to EST and automatically adjusted well before the other two atomic clocks in the house. I have the "SIG" enabled to double beep every hour and it aligns EXACTLY with this Mac laptop's hourly time announcement. The mode dial is well thought out and tells you at a glance what is going on. After less than an hour in sunlight, the charge level has remained at "H" with just normal exposure inside. All of the functions are well designed and intuitive, so you don't need to carry the book after a day or two. It's big, but feather weight compared to the similarly-sized Timex IronMan it has replaced, which also wasn't very loud.

This is a big watch with many different functions. But what I like about it is the dial. It is easy to read even in the dark. And the dial has a very nice color combination.The watch is not very heavy and fits on the arm well.Would I buy it again? Yes I would. Casio makes very good products. This is not a delicate little watch. If you have a small wrist, it will cover it entirely. It is wide and thick.But if you like big watches, this is a very good deal for the price.

This G-Shock watch I chose over other G-Shocks because it was an attention grabber and of course like all G-Shock watches, has a reputation for toughness.The band is rigid next to the dial, but it fits well with many notches for adjustment.The information manual is like a miniture phone book--tiny but thick. It takes a little concentration to learn the functions.Yesterday the watch got its introduction to jet skiing here in Hawaii and it performed flawlessley.Of course it got wet, but not at speed so I don't know how it will behave if I happen to fall off. It is keeping good time but I havn't checked it "to the second". I compared this to a 10 year battery G-shock and an atomic G-Shock. The atomic made no sense because of my frequent Hawaii location.(Too far away from Colorado to get the update signal.) Ultimately--it was the pretty face that won my heart.

This is a classic G-Shock style that looks great in the various colorways they've offered recently, but a few warnings for potential buyers:

- I own this watch in the yellow band/blue face and black band/orange face. Although the picture may lead you to believe the face is deep orange, red even, it is a highly saturated picture, as I've noticed is a G-Shock trend, and it is indeed orange, with the "SHOCK RESIST" and "G-SHOCK" appearing nearly neon orange. I had this problem with another G-Shock that was listed online and appeared as red, but showed up to my door as orange, but at least the listing for this mentions the "Orange dial". It is a lot more orange in real life.

- The shiny nature of the band, in this black version and the yellow version, seems to open it up to more scuffing. For someone who wears it infrequently and only during moderately active activities (biking, playing video games, going to the bar), I do bang it into things and eventually get a scuff that won't clean off. I have other G-Shocks with matte bands, and they don't show scuffs this bad even after wearing them very frequently for 9 years, let alone for just a few months. The shiny band is a nice look that's sure to catch some eyes, but if you wear it frequently, it's gloss is sure to fade.

The G1000H-1A is a classy, sporty, and durable timepiece.The motor function in the watch is absolutely a work of art, and the look of the watch is just as impressive.The watch does sit a little high, but that is typically expected of G-Shocks.The face is very well protected and hasn't gotten a scratch since I purchased it over 4 months ago.The lume on the watch isn't the greatest, if you depend on viewing your watch at night this watch is NOT for you.The lume fully charged lasts a good 2-3 hours, but fades significantly after.If you're looking for an analog watch that's durable, sporty, classy, and reliable the G1000H-1A is a great option.

The problem with replacement bands for Casio Watches is the high price. I bought a real good Casio Solar Atomic Watch (GW-500A) for $60, with the list price at $150. A few years later, when the band wore out, I find the price for the band is listed at $25, a little much considering what you are getting. There are no 3rd party suppliers for this specialized band. This seller is providing the original item, for a low price. I received it earlier than expected, in original package. I will save this seller, because if I ever need replacement watch parts, I will use them,out of appreciation and the fact that they will probably have the best price and availability.

I've only had my new G-shock for a day, but it is exactly what I was looking for; a super rugged watch that looks as good with jeans and a t-shirt as it does with dress pants and a button down. The functions took a little while to figure out, and I'm still not too sure about the auto calibration that'll keep me entertained for a little while, but over all a great watch. This is the 3rd G-Shock I've had and I swear by them now. The first was lost in a car accident. The second I'm fairly sure was done in by water damage but that was only due to the fact that I finally had to have the battery replaced which compromises the seal. Now with the solar charging battery this thing should be bomb proof!!
The only real complaint I have is that for a $400 (retail price) watch it came in the standard Casio packaging like you would get from the case at your local Wal-Mart. I really expected it to come in some type of nice gift box. I'm just glad I wasn't giving it as a gift!!!

Bought this for my son, for two features: solar power and yacht racing timer. Casio watches offer a good value, and each model offers a slightly different combination of features aimed at specific uses.The controls are intuitive for such a full-featured watch.

It was purchased when previous Casio Pathfinder waterproofing failed after an $[...] battery replacement by Casio, but it was beyond Casio warranty, so replacement with this watch was cheaper than repair of the old Pathfinder.Hopefully this watch will last longer, since it is solar powered and should not have to be serviced for a long time. My family is "hard on watches".We have owned several Casio watches and they perform well, and are as durable as any other watches in their price range.

Just before service was necessary a button or buttons would begin to make a squeaking noise followed by failure. This watch may have a battery good for 10 years. but the greatest pleasure I received from this product was gained by throwing it in the trash.

Casio Men's G-Shock GIEZ Series Multi-Band Solar Atomic Watch #GS1100-2A Review

I've only had this watch for a short while, but thought I'd share my first impressions of it.I chose the Casio GS1100-2A (Giez) for a few reasons.First, I'm not a big fan of digital watch displays ... I prefer the traditional analog style with hour, minute and second hands. Secondly, as an owner of a rather expensive dress watch that must be sent back to the factory every few years for battery replacement, I wanted an everyday watch that wouldn't require a lot of maintenance. Finally, although I really didn't need a chronograph, I travel a lot and wanted a watch that could handle multiple time zones. Ultimately, the Giez offered more of the features I was looking for than the others watches I looked at.

The Giez is part of Casio's G-Shock line, meaning that it's designed to withstand harsher conditions and isn't as sensitive to being hit or dropped.The casing both looks and feels solid, nothing cheap about this watch.I chose the GS1100-2A because of it's blue face.For me, the blue face appeared to be slightly easier to read than the black face of the GS1100-1A (which otherwise is the same watch).I also just liked the color.

The display itself consists of a traditional watch dial with three smaller chronograph-style dials within. The hour and minute hand work as you would expect, but what at first appears to be the second hand is in fact not the second hand at all.Seconds are displayed by the small inner dial at the bottom center.The large hand that looks like a second hand is really used as an indicator to assist in selecting city time zones, as well as some other functions. In the stopwatch mode, this same hand serves to measure 1/20th second increments.

The two other inner dials on the main indicate the day of the week (mo,tu,we,etc...)and the hour of the day (using a 24-hour scale.) There's also a small window to display the current date.

The Giez comes with a resin watch band.I would have preferred a metal band (simply for style), but the resin band is suitable for harsher environments, and so it's standard on G-Shock watches.

Another feature of the GS1100-2A is that it uses Casio's "Tough Solar" technology to keep the battery charged.Unlike non-solar watches, the battery in the Giez is rechargable, and depends upon the solar receptor (on the face of the watch) to keep it charged.Without light, the battery will last only about 5 months, as compared to the 2, 5 and 10-year lifespans of non-solar watch batteries.The manual contains a guide as to how much light the watch should get each day in order to keep going.If you're outside in direct sunlight (50,000 lux), you'll only need to expose your watch for about 8 minutes and if you're inside, with your watch exposed to direct sunlight through a window, you must keep it exposed for about 30 minutes per day.On the other hand, if you're inside (and not near a window on a sunny day), only exposed to typical fluorescent lighting, you'll need to keep the watch exposed to light for about 8 hours. Assuming you're wearing your watch, that means you'll have to wear it outside of your sleeve so that it can charge properly. Casio recommends that when you're not wearing the watch, place it somewhere that will be exposed to bright light.This may not be convenient for everybody.

In terms of accuracy, like many quartz watches, the Giez maintains an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per month.However, it has one additional feature to help that along.The GS1100-2A is also part of Casio's Wave Ceptor "Atomic" line of watches.Each night (the exact time depends upon your home region) the Giez will attempt to receive the UTC time signal generated by the NIST Atomic Clock in Colorado and synchronize its time. Doing this nightly will keep your watch accurate to less than a second of the atomic clock's time. It also makes sure your weekday and date settings are correct.If you have the automatic Daylight Savings Time feature activated, the watch will even adjust itself forward and/or back one hour at the proper times of the year.

The actual time synchronization signal is broadcast by a 50,0000 watt transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which (depending upon atmospheric conditions) can be received up to 2000 miles away.This covers the mainland US, but folks in Hawaii and Alaska may not be able to get the signal. Even then, geographic conditions (such as mountains) and other obstacles (such as buildings and tall trees) can also inhibit reception. So, there's no guarantee that your watch will be able to synchronize automatically.I live in New Hampshire and was worried about that after hearing that the Northeast is particularly difficult in terms of time signal reception. The first day I got the watch, I tried a manual synchronization from inside my home office on the first floor.Even though I put the watch near a window as instructed in the manual, the synchronization failed.Before I went to bed however, I placed the watch on an upstairs window sill that faces west.(The manual recommends placing the watch by a window.) During the night, the watch will make up to 6 attempts to receive the UTC signal and synchronize itself. Supposedly, the signal is best received in the early morning hours. The next day I woke up and immediately went over to the window to check on the watch. The Giez provides a way to let you know if the last synchronization attempt was successful and sure enough, it had worked fine. Of course, what that means is that if I want to keep the watch synchronized with the Atomic clock, I'll have to make sure to take it off and put it on the window sill each night.That's not going to be a big deal for me, but it may be to some.The transmitter in Colorado is not the only one in the world, there are also transmitters in Japan, the U.K. and Germany. Most Casio Wave Ceptor watches will recieve the US and Japan signals (helpful for those traveling to Japan.)However, the GS1100-2A also recieves the the U.K. and Germany signals, which most of the other Wave Ceptor watches do not. Unless you'll be travelling to those areas of the world, that extra functionality won't be useful to you. (I travel a lot, so that was a factor for me.)

As far as operating the watch is concerned, it's obvious that the more features a watch has, the more buttons (and button sequences) you'll need to learn.The GS1100-2A has a stopwatch and an alarm.It also can be used as a world time watch, with settings for 29 time zones. There are 4 buttons on the watch (one protruding from each quadrant of the case).Depending upon the function you want, you must press one or more of those buttons in specific sequences, and/or hold them in for specific lengths of time. Some won't want to be bothered to memorize those sequences while others won't mind ... but it's something to be aware of.So far I've learned only a few of the basic sequences, but I'm still referencing the manual for most operations. It took me a bit of time to initially set up the watch because of that.The manual is complete, but a bit confusing in some sections.It could have been written better.

Interestingly, when the watch is adjusting it's time, or transitioning from one world time zone to another, or changing from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time, motors inside the watch actually rotate the hands automatically, so there's no need for you to manually turn a knob.

All in all, I like this watch.It's quite solid and appears to be well built.I can tell it's going to last awhile.It has a good feature set, and it's a bit more stylish than many "geeky" hi-tech watches. Like many hi-tech watches, there's a bit of a learning curve in terms of it's operation;And as I stated earlier, in order to take advantage of the Solar and Atomic Synchronization features, you may have to alter your daily habits in order to accommodate the need for light, and to alsoposition the watch near a window at night in order for it to receive the time signal. If the the solar feature isn't of interest to you and you don't want to have to think about keeping it charged, I'd definitely look at a different watch. Most of the non-solar watches offer much better battery life.Also, if you're living in a city (in between tall buildings) or if you are nestled in between high mountains where signals may not get through, you might not want to pay the extra bucks for the atomic time feature. I lucked out and can get the signal, but others may not be that lucky.

The retail price of this watch is $300.00.I paid about $200.00, but I've seen it advertised on-line for a few dollars less (although shipping costs may offset that.)
